Wet Carpet Drying in Kirkland, WA: 24 Hour Water Removal

Wet carpet is heavy, smelly and holds water against your subfloor. But it does not always need to be thrown out. Our emergency wet carpet drying crews extract the water, check the pad and subfloor, and use proven methods like floating the carpet to dry it fast. When pad must be replaced, we put new pad down and re-stretch the carpet so it looks right. We work 24 hours a day, with same day service across Kirkland, WA.

When wet carpet can be saved

The type of water and how long it sat decide almost everything.

Why pad is replaced so often: Pad is like a sponge. It holds far more water than the carpet and is hard to dry or clean all the way through. New pad costs much less than new carpet, so replacing it is usually the smart choice. Dirty water? See sewage cleanup.

How we dry carpet

Our carpet drying methods

Fans pointed at the top of a wet carpet barely help. The water is in the pad and on the subfloor underneath. Here is what actually works.

Deep extraction

Weighted extraction tools press water out of the carpet and pad. This removes far more water than any household machine. Learn more about water extraction.

Floating the carpet

We pull the carpet back from the tack strip and blow air underneath it with an air mover. The carpet lifts like a balloon and dries from both sides, along with the subfloor.

Drying in place

For a small area of clean water caught early, we can sometimes dry carpet and pad without lifting anything, using extraction and dehumidifiers.

Clean, treat and re-stretch

Once dry, we clean the carpet, apply an antimicrobial treatment, install new pad if needed and re-stretch the carpet so there are no ripples.

Warning signs

Signs your carpet is still wet underneath

Musty smell

A damp, sour odor after a leak usually means wet pad below.

Cool, damp feel

Carpet that feels cool to bare feet may still hold water.

Ripples and bubbles

Wet backing loosens and the carpet wrinkles.

Stains or spots

Brown wicking stains or dark spots can mean mold is starting.

Our process

How we restore wet carpet

  1. Find the water's edge

Moisture meters show how far water spread under the carpet, often farther than it looks.

  2. Extract water

Truck-mounted or portable extractors with weighted tools pull water from carpet and pad.

  3. Decide on the pad

We check the water type and time. Pad is removed if it cannot be safely dried.

  4. Float and dry

Air movers dry under the carpet and the subfloor. Dehumidifiers dry the room.

  5. Clean and treat

Carpet is cleaned and treated with an antimicrobial to stop odor and mold.

  6. Reinstall

New pad goes down and the carpet is re-stretched and seamed as needed.

Condo bedrooms
In Totem Lake condos, carpet in bedrooms often catches water from a neighbor's leak above or beside.
Do not do this

Common wet carpet mistakes

  • Using a household vacuum to suck up water.

  • Pointing a box fan at the carpet surface and hoping for the best.

  • Waiting to see if it dries on its own over a few days.

  • Pulling up soaked carpet yourself. Wet carpet is very heavy and tears.

  • Laying towels down and leaving them there for days.

  • Putting carpet back over a damp subfloor.

FAQs

Wet carpet questions

Can wet carpet be saved?

Often, yes, if the water was clean and drying starts within a day or two. Carpet soaked by sewage, toilet bowl water or outside flood water should be replaced for health reasons.

Do I need to replace the carpet pad?

Usually. Pad soaks up most of the water and is hard to dry and clean completely. Replacing it costs much less than replacing carpet, and it protects against odor and mold.

How long does it take wet carpet to dry?

With professional equipment, most carpet dries in two to three days. Carpet over concrete in a basement can take a little longer.

Will wet carpet grow mold?

It can, if the pad and subfloor stay wet for more than a day or two. Fast drying and an antimicrobial treatment help prevent it.

Can I dry carpet with fans myself?

Fans on top of the carpet dry the surface but leave the pad and subfloor wet. That is how musty smells and mold start. Professional extraction and floating dry all the layers.

Will my carpet look the same afterward?

In most cases, yes. After drying, cleaning and re-stretching, carpet usually looks and feels like it did before. Carpet that delaminated may need replacing.
